West Allis

A suburb of Milwaukee, West Allis covers just over 11 square miles, is home to roughly 60,000 people, and is the site of the annual Wisconsin State Fair. The name originates from Edward P. Allis, an American businessman who started the manufacturing company bearing his name in the late 1800s. The area was first incorporated as the Village of West Allis, then became the City of West Allis in 1906. West Allis quickly became the largest of all Milwaukee suburbs in the early 20th century, with rapid population growth between 1910 and 1930. Fun fact, West Allis is home to one of only two indoor speed skating rinks in the United States.
